Task 4 - Essay Proposal

Post a proposal for your Level 5 essay on to your CTS blogs. This proposal should clearly outline what you are intending to study and include-

A Title
6 brief bullet points explaining what the main points of the essay are going to be.
A literature search which includes at least 6 academic sources (internet, journals, books) that will be central to your investigation. This should also include commentary as to why you think each source will be useful.

This should be posted to your blogs by 23rd Dec at the latest.

Task 3- Constructing the Other

Compile an annotated photo essay that analyses the visual and linguistic construction of a specific other within a magazine, journal, periodical, newspaper, zine of your choice. Concentrate on how text supports image, and vice versa. You could focus on gender, race, class, sexuality, fashion, etc but make sure that you comment on how the construction of such an 'other' secures and stabilises the identity, and sense of self, of the publication's core audience.

Portfolio Task 5- How to Read a Photograph

Read the text - 'How Do We Read A Photograph' in Clarke, G (1997) 'The Photograph', UK, Oxford, pp. 27-40

In approximately 500 words, summarise the authors main points, then conduct a brief critical reading of a photograph of your choosing, in the way that the text suggests.

Portfolio Task 4- Postmodernism

Find five images of what you consider to be Postmodern Visual Communication. Post these to your blog, with reference to date, author and title in the following form-
